An exciting opportunity exists at Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP for a self-motivated individual to join our team as our Quality Manager. This position is responsible for managing the quality team and ensuring compliance to ISO and contract standards. This is a full-time salary position based out of our office in Red Deer or Ponoka, AB and will report to the Corporate Quality Manager.

Who we are:

Mainroad Alberta Contracting was awarded two highway maintenance contracts by the Government of Alberta Transportation in August 2019. The maintenance contract oversees 4,600 kilometres of provincial highways surrounding and within the counties of Lacombe, Ponoka, Red Deer and Wetaskiwin known as Alberta Transportation Contract Maintenance Areas 515 and 516. Mainroad Alberta Contracting has operations yards in Winfield, Ponoka, Red Deer and Innisfail. What you bring:

  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Engineering, Business Administration or Construction/Project Management is required, or an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and experience;
  • Previous quality control/management, contract interpretation, data analytics, field auditing, and report writing experience in the highway maintenance, construction, natural resources, or a closely related industry;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a management/leadership role in a relevant industry;
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Power BI (preferred), Access (preferred), GIS (asset);
  • ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 training and certification;
  • Valid COR Internal Auditor Certificate is preferred;
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License with a clean abstract;
  • Demonstrated leadership – ability to lead by example, build a team environment and foster teamwork amongst staff;
  • Ability to build relationships and interact with clients, government, management, and operations;
  • Mentoring and coaching capabilities;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Experience driving in high traffic areas in harsh winter weather conditions;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to develop training programs for staff;
  • Background in a strong safety culture;
  • Willingness and ability to travel;
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.

This role involves a range of job duties, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing monthly field audits to contract specifications across a 4,600 km road network;
  • Managing process and system audits to Mainroad’s quality safety and environmental requirements;
  • Working with operations to develop recommendations for improvements;
  • Regular interaction with government management representatives as well as field inspectors;
  • Reporting monthly field audit results internally as well as to the government;
  • Chairing internal and external meetings;
  • Overseeing non-conformity, root cause analysis, and corrective action process
  • Writing and maintaining quality management plans
  • Establishing and implementing training programs for operational staff in cooperation with operations;
  • Ensuring all departments have tools and training to comply with the various quality safety and environmental standards;
  • Establishing and reviewing schedules for qualify control & assurance inspectors;
  • Development of app-based forms and management of associated data flow and reporting;
  • Implementing and monitoring a system to identify and respond to non-conforming products or services.
