Mainroad Alberta Contracting LP is offering an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated professional to lead our quality team as the Corporate Quality Manager – Alberta. In this role, you will oversee the quality management processes across our Alberta operating companies, with a primary focus on Mainroad Alberta Contracting. Your expertise will ensure compliance with ISO standards and contract requirements, driving excellence in our operations. This is a full-time salaried position based in our Red Deer, AB office, reporting directly to the Director of HSSE.

Mainroad Alberta Contracting was awarded two highway maintenance contracts by the Government of Alberta Transportation in August 2019. The maintenance contract oversees 4,600 kilometres of provincial highways surrounding and within the counties of Lacombe, Ponoka, Red Deer and Wetaskiwin known as Alberta Transportation Contract Maintenance Areas 515 and 516. Mainroad Alberta Contracting has operations yards in Winfield, Ponoka, Red Deer and Innisfail. What you bring:
- Educational Background: A degree or diploma in Engineering, Business Administration, or Construction/Project Management is required, or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
- Certifications: ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 training and certification, along with hands-on application. Six Sigma Certified Lead Auditor certification is required.
- Experience: 7 years of management/leadership experience in a relevant industry, with 10 years managing a quality or integrated management system. 5 years of contract management experience is a strong asset.
- Industry Expertise: Proven track record in quality control/management, contract interpretation, data analytics, field auditing, and report writing, particularly within highway maintenance, construction, natural resources, or related industries. Experience in environmental and safety auditing is a strong asset.
- Leadership and Collaboration: Proven leadership ability with a talent for building and fostering teamwork. Strong relationship-building skills with clients, government entities, management, and operations teams.
- Mentoring Skills: Experience in mentoring and coaching teams.
- Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability in analytics development and measurement through data collection and research.
- Program Development: Skilled in developing and delivering auditing, analytical, and training programs.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, with a preference for Power BI and Access. GIS experience is considered an asset.
- Certifications and Licenses: A valid COR Internal Auditor Certificate is preferred. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record is required.
- Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to tasks and responsibilities.
- Environmental Adaptability: Comfort with driving in high-traffic areas and harsh winter weather conditions.
- Communication: Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
- Safety Commitment: A background in promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture.
- Flexibility: Willingness and ability to travel, with occasional work during evenings and weekends as required.
This role involves a range of job duties, which include, but are not limited to:
- Client Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact with Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) regarding all quality requirements, attending monthly and ad hoc meetings as needed.
- Cross-Department Coordination: Collaborate with the Corporate Safety Manager on IMS Program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Expert Advice: Provide expert guidance on IMS program requirements to operational management.
- Team Development: Mentor and coach the Quality team on contract requirements and IMS Program elements.
- Audit Implementation: Develop and implement the monthly Contract Audit program in accordance with contract requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Work with operating companies to implement improvement plans based on audit results and business needs.
- Compliance Audits: Conduct ISO audits to ensure compliance and alignment with IMS Program objectives and targets.
- Strategic Planning: Develop IMS Program priorities and strategic goals that align with company objectives.
- Audit Reviews: Ensure consistency and accuracy in audit reporting through regular reviews.
- Process Audits: Perform annual process audits on each maintenance operating company.
- External Audits: Manage relationships with auditors during external (ISO) audits.
- Program Enhancement: Identify areas for improvement through analytics of the IMS Program and audit results, and assist in the development and implementation of enhancements.
- Training Development: Create and implement training programs for the IMS Program targeted at operational management.
- Documentation Management: Oversee the development and updating of IMS Program documentation, including manuals, forms, and policies.
- Audit Management: Lead monthly field audits to ensure contract compliance and manage process and system audits for quality, safety, and environmental standards.
- Meeting Leadership: Chair internal and external meetings, driving effective communication and resolution of issues.
- Corrective Actions: Oversee the non-conformity, root cause analysis, and corrective action process to drive continuous improvement.
- Quality Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive quality management plans to ensure program success.
