Today, we are recognized as a leader in providing innovative, safe and reliable maintenance, products and construction services for civil infrastructure works across Canada. Mainroad businesses are grouped into four segments: 1) BC Infrastructure Services 2) Alberta Infrastructure Services 3) Electrical Infrastructure Services and 4) Infrastructure Products.

Mainroad’s finance team is a highly collaborative group of professionals that support 20 operating companies and corporate office departments. We are currently looking to fill a Senior Accountant position within the team. The successful candidate will thrive working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and have a strong ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently with minimal supervision. They will also possess exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders, management, and employees. While independent problem-solving is highly valued, this role will be an integral part of a team of high-performing CPA’s who collaborate and support each other in navigating the challenges encountered in their day-to-day duties.

This is a full-time office-based role out of Mainroad’s head office in Cloverdale.

The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and CPA or comparable designation.
  • Minimum of five years of accounting experience, preferably in public practice.
  • Comprehensive full-cycle experience with a strong grasp of intercompany and/or multiple cost divisions.
  • Proven expertise in job costing analysis and work-in-progress management.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong learning agility to adapt and grow in a dynamic environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail ensuring accuracy in all tasks.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Office software.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to thrive in a team setting and meet the demands of stakeholders.
  • Ability to see the big picture and align tasks to achieve overall goals

Job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Conduct daily banking transactions, including reporting and reconciliations
  • Review accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Analyze job costing to determine appropriate work-in-progress accruals
  • Prepare month-end GL and sub-ledger account reconciliations
  • Liaise with other departments and management as required
  • Prepare and review financial statements
  • Complete performance commentary and variance analysis
  • Serve as the finance business partner for multiple businesses
  • Assist with preparation of the year-end audit working papers
  • Assist with preparation of the annual consolidated financial statements
  • Liaise with external auditors on assigned sections of the audit
  • Carry out all other duties as required
